Gas Fireplace Soot and Cloudy Glass

A light white film can develop on fireplace glass during normal operation. Heavy black soot, rapid discolouration, delayed ignition, or an unusual flame pattern needs inspection of the burner, media placement, combustion air, venting, and gas pressure.

What matters during diagnosis

Stop using the fireplace if flames leave the burner area, ignition is delayed, or black soot develops quickly.
Incorrect log or media placement can interfere with the intended flame pattern and create soot.
Restricted combustion air, burner contamination, venting problems, or improper gas pressure require professional testing.
Cleaning the glass alone does not correct the cause of recurring black soot.
